At-Risk Populations
While anyone can get influenza, certain populations are at higher risk for the disease and its complications. These groups include:
- Children 6 months up to 5 years of age;
- Adults 50 and older; and
- Anyone with a chronic medical condition such as diabetes, asthma or heart disease.
If you fall into one of these categories, health authorities say influenza vaccination is critical. If you are in close contact with any of these groups, (e.g., relative, caregiver, health care worker), you should also get vaccinated to help reduce the risk of spreading influenza to those more vulnerable to the disease.
If you or someone close to you is at high risk for influenza and its complications, read and share these tools to learn more about the seriousness of influenza and the importance of vaccination.
